They sing for your supper at Mel’s Hard Luck Diner
Some days a simple all-American burger and fries just hits the spot. That’s what you’ll get at Mel’s Hard Luck Diner. The atmosphere is casual and friendly - just like a diner should be, only everyone on staff just happens to be an enormously talented musician.
Right away, you pick up the vibes, everyone here is hving a good time. The staff at Mel’s Diner are all professional singers, songwriters, and musicians. Sometime during the meal, your waitress or waiter is going to literally burst into song and sing for your supper.
Last time I was there, Karen Richardson waited on my table. The service was great and she sang a Barbara Streisand tune that left no doubt about her musical talent. If you are lucky and there is time, even the cooks will sing. Close your eyes and you will be pretty sure Johnny Cash is singing Ring Of Fire. But it’s really the cook, Casey Dodd.
Most of the staff have CDs for sale, and they will even autograph them for you. Staff will go out of their way to pose while they are singing, if you have a camera handy. Or, another staffer will gladly take your picture with your singer/waiter.
The 1950's era diner is staffed by professional singers, songwriters, and musicians. Many have been or are currently in some of Branson's most popular shows. These are professional, award winning entertainers, many of whom are also in Branson’s other productions.
Mel’s typical diner fare includes Blue Plate Specials along with burgers, hot dogs and patty melts. The menu is simple, uncomplicated fare that you may remember from an old fashioned Route 66 type mom and pop diner.
There’s a soda fountain where you can find real malts, shakes and floats. Mel’s Favorite: the Magnificently Mesmerizing Root Beer Malt is only $4.99. Plus, there’s also Dr Pepper and Orange Dream-Cicle floats.
The Hard Luck Diner is great place for an afternoon break. In addition to the premium ice-cream selections there are sundaes, cheesecake, carrot cake and specialty pies.
If you want to split a banana spit with your girl, Karen will even bring you two spoons. Order the Build Me Up. Banana Cup. Or order the decadent Rock Around The Chocolate fudge brownie Sundae, deinately a two spooner.
Burgers come with tomato onion and pickle on the side and hot fresh seasoned fries for $8.99. Add a house salad to your sandwich order for $3.99. Blue plate special run from $8.99 to $16.99.
Mel's Hard Luck Diner, where “We Sing for Your Supper!” is open for breakfast buffet from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m.
